I truly like the approach and all the information you provided. I think there is a lot of good stuff here. One thing to keep in mind is that Amazon have probably the desire of have and own their own ASIC but they won’t do it by themselves. They will partner with another company to get it done. That way Amazon doesn’t need to hire an army of people to keep up with the innovation of new ASICS. That requires a lot of R&D, effort and time. Another point that you didn’t even mention is Amazon regional offices, warehouses and fulfillment center for the campus network. Campus networks not only for routing and switching but also for WIRELESS. How you think they control those robots? It’s all by IoT and Wireless. Networking is key and king and Amazon cannot do it all! Enterprise Networking features are very different from Data Centers Networking features and if they already have an army of resources on AWS to keep up with the infrastructure, think about how many people they might need in the future for all the campus network infrastructure. It’s a non-stop investment.
